Three problems with the Ford Kuga: faulty fuel gauge, injectors and panoramic roof

Ford announces two recalls and one service campaign for the Kuga SUV. The fuel gauge may not read correctly, a poorly adhered glass roof may detach, and faulty injectors may cause fuel leaks.

While the service campaign with the internal manufacturer code 22B31 is already underway, the start dates for the safety-related recalls 22S58 and 22S73 have not yet been set. However, they are scheduled to take place in January 2023.

For Ford Kuga with all-wheel drive, the remaining range could be incorrectly reflected due to an incorrect configuration of the instrument cluster, so the fuel level displayed could be higher or lower than expected. This may prevent the low fuel warning indicator from lighting up. The tank could therefore be emptied surprisingly, and the vehicle could come to a standstill. Over 9,600 vehicles manufactured between 17 January and 29 July 2022 are affected; the service campaign code is 22B31.



The adhesion of the roof frame coating needs to be checked on 7,326 Ford Kuga with a panoramic roof. If necessary, the glass roof will be re-glued by an authorised workshop. A spokesman for Germany’s Ford Werke GmbH confirmed to kfz-rueckrufe.de that he is aware of three cases where the glass roof of compact SUVs registered in Europe and manufactured between 19 April and 18 October 2021 has detached from the bodywork. The recall code is 22S58.

According to the spokesman, the 13,371 owners of 1.5-litre petrol-engined Kuga vehicles in Germany will also have to schedule a workshop visit because there could be a fuel leak in the engine compartment. Between 1 August 2019 and 8 November 2022, faulty fuel injectors may have been fitted to the three-cylinder units. The number of affected cars outside Germany has yet to be discovered. Ford is registering this recall under the code 22S73.
