Subaru plans to carry out a voluntary recall for the BRZ, Forester, Impreza / XV and Legacy models made between January 2012 and May 2013 and equipped with the 2.0L petrol engines (type FA20 and FB20). The cause of the problems can be the valve spring fracture.
In November, Toyota issued a recall for GT86 model through the Rapex system. Due to a production error of the valve spring, performance load may exceed the valve spring’s fatigue strength and it may fracture. If this occurs, the engine may stall while driving and it may be impossible to restart it – we wrote here.
The problem is now reported also with a related Subaru BRZ and not just with it. The same defect may occur with the following Subaru models of different production periods:
Forester: Model Year 2012 – 2013
Impreza/XV: Model Year 2012 – 2013
Legacy: Model Year 2013
BRZ: Model Year 2013
The manufacturer is, therefore, to declare a voluntary recall within the next few months. The timetable and the exact procedure have not yet been established and it is not even known how long the engine repair will last. As confirmed to the asp-Online.de website by the spokesperson of the Subaru Germany, official letters should be sent out in the second quarter of 2019. In Germany, the recall will affect about 4.974 vehicles, with 336.112 vehicles worldwide.
