Steering failure risk with Audi Q7, Q8 and VW Touareg

Small but powerful – this is how a recall for the models Audi Q7, Q8 and VW Touareg can be described. 1,122 SUVs worldwide are at risk of steering failure.

The German Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) expressly urges 85 Audi and 69 VW owners in Germany not to use their vehicle any longer and to contact the manufacturer immediately.

The reason is apparently not a defective component, but a human failure during the assembly in the Slovakian plant. The steering shaft may not have been properly screwed to the steering gear. “Loosening the screw connection between the steering shaft and steering gear can impair the ability to steer and if the screw is lost, the steering can fail,” warns the KBA.

The fault only occurred with several vehicles, but over a comparatively long period between January 2015 and February 2019. The screw connection of the steering intermediate shaft to the steering gear must be replaced and tightened with the required torque.
