Skoda roof boxes can open while driving

Insufficient robustness may cause damage to the lock plates of the Skoda roof box lid. The carmaker, therefore, recalls them for inspection.

The roof box could open while driving, and parts of the baggage could fall out onto the road, posing a risk to other road users.

The Skoda Roof Boxes in question are 400-litre Skoda Roof Boxes in black and silver. Type designations 000 071 175 C (silver) and 000 071 175 D (black). The boxes were manufactured between 1 June 2021 and 31 January 2022. The recall code is “6749 Roofbox“. Around four hundred boxes are involved worldwide.

“The boxes of this series are easily recognisable by the ‘PAJR’ logo on the plastic lock covers. Customers are kindly asked to contact their SKODA dealer to discuss the next steps. We apologise to customers for any inconvenience,” Pavel Jína, spokesman for Skoda Auto, told Car-recalls.eu.

Skoda has previously recalled folding scooters from its e-shop that fit into the boot of the Kamiq and Scala models. It turned out that “The product’s frame may break due to insufficient penetration of the weld in the body of the scooter. Furthermore, the folding structure of the wedge is not sufficiently resistant to load and can fold back, causing the user to fall and be injured,” as we wrote in the article Skoda decided to recall all delivered scooters.

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
