Risk of fire even when the vehicle is parked with three Kia models

Kia-Sorento-2010-fire-risk-kba

Kia is recalling 234,629 vehicles of the Optima model series manufactured between 11. 8. 2011 and 11. 7. 2013, 444,446 vehicles of the Sorento model series manufactured between 15. 1. 2010 and 17. 6. 2013, and 241,146 vehicles of the Cerato model series manufactured between 6. 4. 2010 and 22. 3. 2013. The reason for the recall is a short circuit in the ABS/ESP unit circuit that can lead to a fire, even when the vehicle is switched off.

At an authorised workshop, new low-capacity fuses are installed for early detection of system faults. The fuse has a lower ampere rating to effectively limit the operating current of the ABS/ESC unit.

The Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) monitors the recall under the reference number “15156R, 15157R, 15158R“. The internal manufacturer code is “241A04QF, 241A04XMa, 241146“.

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
