Defective operating manual can cause the roof load to be exceeded if a canopy is subsequently fitted. Exceeding the permissible total roof load can impair the correct functioning of the Electronic stability program (ESP) and reduce the driving stability, increasing the risk of an accident.

The Mercedes-Benz X-Class models affected by this recall were manufactured between 01 June 2017 and 13 March 2019.
