The cooling airflow is insufficient, causing the oil channel to be blocked. This leads the connecting rod bearing to seize and the connecting rod to tear off. This can deteriorate the combustion engine, resulting in a rupture in the engine oil tank or engine block, creating an oil tank leak. This increases the risk of fire under the bonnet.
The German Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) describes the fault as follows: If the electric motor is not disconnected from the hybrid drive, the engine oil pan or the engine block may break, allowing engine oil to escape in the event of damage to the combustion engine. There is a risk of fire.
