This week’s recalls:
– Mercedes, Seat – airbags
– Kia, Peugeot – fuel, fire
– DS, Opel, Peugeot – camshaft chain

Overview of recalls in the 29 week of 2025

Four recalls for 21 models of four makes were announced via EU Safety Gate in the 29 week of 2025. Seven recalls for 16 models of seven makes were published by the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).

One recall each will be found this week in the European Safety Gate system for the DS, Dodge, Opel and Peugeot.

Alfa Romeo, Ford, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Seat a Tesla are all recalling through the German KBA.

Airbags in old Mercedes and Seat

Further proof of the fact that owners of very old cars should also be interested in recalls is the Mercedes recall for driver airbags, which concerns 222,969 old Vito/Viano vans (BR 639) built between December 2002 and February 2006. This includes also those that have already had their driver’s airbag replaced in a previous recall. It’s hard to assume that most of the recall letters will be sent to the right address, to the right owner, as there may have been quite a number of these in the 20 years of the car’s life. So, if you know anyone with an old Mercedes van, let them know.

It will probably be similar with the Seats from 2012 to 2017, of which another 1,104 are being recalled this week, out of the total of 1,112,475 announced in the recall report, which was divided into five stages and first announced by the German KBA on 19 July 2023 under protocol number 12778/23.

Fuel leak and fire

Two recalls this week are due to possible fuel line damage and subsequent fire risk. While this can only happen in a frontal collision in 4,598 2023 and 2024 Kia Sorento vehicles, it can happen in everyday driving in 1,659 Peugeot 308, 3008, 408 and 5008 vehicles built between 4 May 2023 and 22 January 2025. This is because the fuel line can be damaged by the ignition coil screw.

Camshaft chain

We recently reported on a major recall by Stellantis of over one million 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engines, due to the risk of camshaft chain breakage resulting in severe engine damage. Further details are gradually emerging regarding the production period and number of each model affected. The first batch of affected DS, Opel and Peugeot models can be found in the table at the end of the article. More affected models and brands will follow in the coming days — stay tuned!

Details on this week’s Rapex recalls can be found in the table below.

We write about the KBA recalls in the following articles:

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
