Four new recalls were announced by Mazda at the beginning of July 2019. A problem with the engine control unit may occur with the Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 models. In addition, the Mazda3 may not have the wheel nuts tightened properly and the restraint system warning lights may fail. With the Mazda MX-5, the aluminium undercover can fall on the road while driving.
The Engine Control Unit (PCM) may fail to switch from the cylinder deactivation to normal mode with Mazda3 (BP), Mazda CX-5 (KF), and Mazda6 (GL) models produced between 20 June 2017 and 23 May 2019. Subsequently, the intake valve rocker could come into contact with other engine components. The defect may occur with 57,869 vehicles, most of which are registered in Europe.
Wheel nuts
In addition, with 18,277 models of the Mazda3 (BP) made from November 6, 2018 to April 19, 2019, there is a possibility that the nuts of the front and rear wheels have not been tightened with the correct torque. Partner services should already be informed of this deficiency and should tighten the wheels. The VIN code range is JMZBP **** 01 100060 – 119193.
Seatbelt warning lights
Another recall also applies to the Mazda3 (BP). The passenger airbag deactivation warning light may not come on if the airbag is deactivated. In addition, the indicator on the instrument panel may not light up when the passenger seatbelt is unfastened, while the seat belt indicator of the rear seats may be erroneously turned off regardless of the actual condition.
According to Mazda, this defect does not affect the proper functioning of the airbags and can only be confusing to the crew. In Europe, the recall will affect 12,099 cars produced between 6 November 2018 and 7 March 2019. The VIN code range is JMZBP **** 01 100060 – 112469.
Undercover
The last of the four latest Mazda recalls covers the 2.817 MX-5 (ND) models manufactured between May 26 and July 6, 2015, where the aluminium undercover mount bracket may be insufficiently welded. The cover may be lost while driving.
