Overview of the recalls in the 50th week of 2024
Nine recalls for 20 models of nine manufacturers were issued via EU Safety Gate in week 50 of 2024. Four recalls for four models of four manufacturers were announced via the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).
One recall can be found in the European Safety Gate system for BMW, Fiat, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Opel, Peugeot, Porsche and Toyota.
Ford, Hyundai, Nissan and Volkswagen are recalling via the KBA.

Risk of steering lock
More than 20,000 BMW 5 Series and 7 Series, including the electric versions and the M5, may experience unexpected steering behaviour. This is due to a manufacturing defect which may cause the bushing of the double universal joint of the steering column to break. On more than 2,000 Jeep Avengers, the pinion inside the electric power steering housing may crack, making it difficult or impossible to turn the steering wheel.
Central wheel nut
A defect in the central wheel locking bolt can cause the fastening system to fail, resulting in the wheel coming loose or falling off and loss of control of the vehicle, according to Safety Gate report number A12/03530/24. Nearly 13,000 Porsche 911, GT4, Panamera and Spyder vehicles manufactured between 13 September 2023 and 23 October 2024 are being recalled.
Skoda and VW may be vulnerable to hackers
Security experts have discovered serious vulnerabilities in the infotainment systems of some Skoda vehicles. While the vulnerability has been confirmed in the Skoda Superb III, the MIB3 system is also used in other Skoda and Volkswagen models. It is estimated that more than 1.4 million vehicles worldwide could be affected. Read more here.
