General Motors (GM) has launched a major recall for 597,630 vehicles equipped with the 6.2-litre L87 eight-cylinder engine. The recall covers model years 2021 through 2024 and includes popular SUVs and pickups from Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac.
The reason for the recall is a potential manufacturing defect in the connecting rods and crankshafts that could lead to serious engine damage or complete failure. According to reports from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this can occur without warning, increasing the risk of an accident. NHTSA received 39 complaints of engine failure and launched an investigation in January.
