Ford Explorer: Risk of unintended vehicle movement

Ford-Explorer-2019-2022-incomplete-software-update

Ford is recalling 4,099 Explorer PHEV vehicles manufactured between 7 February 2019 and 1 April 2022 to authorized workshops worldwide. The reason for the recall is an incomplete software update, which may cause a mounting bolt in the rear axle area to break. A vehicle parked solely with the gear selector in the “P” (Park) position may not be adequately secured against unintended movement if the handbrake is not also engaged. Additionally, a loss of drive may occur.

At an authorised workshop, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software will be updated to complete the previously incomplete measure (code 22S27).

The Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) monitors the recall under the reference number “15099R“. The internal manufacturer code is “25S22“.

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
