Fire risk with Ford Bronco, Escape and Kuga

Ford-Bronco-fire-risk

Ford is recalling 46,947 Bronco, Escape and Kuga vehicles with 1.5L Eco Boost engine (3-cylinder petrol) manufactured during the production period 25 July 2019 to 13 January 2022. This measure is because the fuel injectors do not meet the specifications. Under certain conditions, leaking fuel combined with an ignition source can lead to a fire in the engine compartment or localised melting of parts and smoke development.

A drain hose is fitted to safely divert leaking fuel away from hot surfaces such as the cylinder head or exhaust. The vehicle’s software is updated to detect a drop in fuel pressure. This software reduces the engine’s power when a drop in fuel pressure is detected and a warning light illuminates the instrument cluster. The recall is monitored with the KBA reference number “012363“, and the internal code is “22S73“.

Already 43 damage to property and 4 injuries outside Europe have been recorded.

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
