Possible brake problems with Hyundai, Citroen, Opel and Peugeot (week 24/25)

Hyundai-brakes-problem--recall

This week’s recalls:
– Hyundai – brakes
– Stellantis – brake fluid leak
– Ford – rear view camera

Overview of the recalls in the 24th week of 2025

Five recalls for eight models of five makes were published via EU Safety Gate in week 24 of 2025. Three recalls for six models of two brands were released by the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).

Citroen, DS, Hyundai, Opel and Peugeot each have one recall in the European Safety Gate system this week.

Ford and Mazda are recalling via the KBA.

Left Foot Braking

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N features a ‘left foot braking’ (LFB) mode that enables drivers to use both the accelerator and brake pedals simultaneously for enhanced track driving performance. However, a recall has been issued to address a software issue whereby engaging LFB could potentially result in reduced braking performance and longer stopping distances due to the anti-lock braking system becoming depressurised. A total of 4,850 vehicles equipped with this feature and manufactured between 13 March 2023 and 11 December 2024 are being recalled. The VIN code range can be found here.

Brake fluid leak

If you have a Citroen C4, Citroen C4 X, DS3 Crossback, Peugeot 208, Peugeot 2008, Opel Corsa or Opel Mokka in your garage, you should find out when your car was manufactured. If it was at the turn of May and June 2024, you should contact an authorised workshop to be on the safe side. In more than 900 of these Stellantis Group vehicles from that period, the aluminium EBS valve block around the valves may not be completely cast. This could result in brake fluid leakage and deactivation of the stability control system. In addition, the brake fluid could come into contact with the electronics and deactivate the anti-lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution.

Rear view camera

Ford is recalling 41,492 Ford Explorer PHEV SUVs manufactured between 20 January 2019 and 25 July 2023 for a repeat rear camera software update. The original recall in January 2024 affected 431,524 Explorers and 37,306 Transit vans. The rear-view camera may not work when reverse gear is engaged, and a blue or black image may appear on the display. Last October, we published an article with an overview of other car manufacturers and models that were also recalled due to camera problems: Hundreds of thousands of cars are recalled due to blind reversing camera (week 41/24).

Details on this week’s Safety Gate recalls can be found in the table below.

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
