Volvo will announce in the near future a recall for 507,354 vehicles of various models. The reason is a possible overheating and subsequent deformation of the plastic intake manifold. Deformation may have a negative effect on engine operation.
The problem is indicated by the check engine light on, engine shutdown or power loss. In the worst case, a localized fire in the engine compartment may occur.
Affected are the following models:

- Volvo V70 / production 2013 – 2015
- Volvo XC70 / production 2013 – 2015
- Volvo XC60 / production 2013 – 2016
- Volvo S60 / production 2013 – 2017
- Volvo S60CC / production 2015 – 2016
- Volvo V60 / production 2013 – 2017
- Volvo V60CC / production 2015 – 2016
- Volvo XC90 / production 2015 – 2017
- Volvo V40 / production 2014 – 2018
- Volvo V40CC / production 2014 – 2018
- Volvo S90 / production 2016 – 2017
- Volvo V90 / production 2016 – 2017
- Volvo V90CC / production 2016 – 2018
Since the repair method will vary depending on the model and engine type, this recall with the code “R-29939” is only the initial information for the owners about a possible defect and its symptoms. Specific measures will be announced later this year in six separate recalls. We’ll keep you informed about all of them as soon as they appear in the EU Rapex or the UK DVSA systems.

Update 19/7/19: Rapex has just released more information about the issue: “In certain driving conditions, the EGR cooling circuit may not be robust enough. As a result, an unexpected amount of soot may be generated, leading to increased risk of a fire in the engine compartment.” Check out the specific models in our Volvo Archive.
