Six recalls for ten models of five carmakers were announced in the 44th week of 2018. Lexus, Toyota, Infiniti and Volvo had one action each, while two recalls were announced by Mercedes-Benz.
The smallest of Volvo´s SUV appears in our reports for the first time. The XC40 produced from early July to early August 2018 may have a poorly tightened brake pedal, which could lead to brake failure. This is also this year´s first recall for the Nordic carmaker. Last time, Volvo recalled the XC90 model in August 2017 because of a possible seat belt pretensioner fault.
Toyota and Lexus
The Toyota C-HR has already been recalled this year and in a relatively short time period, as it has appeared in the Rapex report for the second time – see our archive. For the vehicles manufactured between June to August 2018, there is also a problem with a badly tightened component, much like with Volvo. However, in this case, these are the screws fixing the wheel bearings on the rear axle hub. The loose wheel may become detached. Toyota’s luxury division, the Lexus brand, is also facing problems this week. With the IS350, GS350 and GS450h models produced between 2005 and 2014 a crack in the fuel pulsation damper may lead to a fuel leak. This may increase the risk of the vehicle catching fire.

Mercedes-Benz
Two recalls were issued by Mercedes-Benz in the 44th week. At the beginning of October, we wrote about the recall due to inadequate detection of the passenger’s presence in the E-Class, CLS and AMG GT. The CLA and B-Class models are now reporting the same problem. The installation of a child seat may not deactivate the passenger airbag as required. The second recall is for the Mercedes E-Class, where the operation of the active bonnet may be faulty in the event of a collision with a pedestrian. This could increase the potential risk of injury.
Infiniti
In our recent review, we listed cars that have problems with a child lock in the rear door. This list can now be expanded to the Infiniti Q30 and QX30. However, the fault is only in the operating instructions, which makes it quite unclear when the fuse is switched on and off. This could result in the user inadvertently deactivating the safety feature.
