Engine and wipers failure with Mazda, screws interchange with Mercedes-Benz (week 30/19)

Mazda-engine-valve-recall

1. 8. 2019 In Weekly Overviews

Four recalls for seven Mazda’s and Mercedes-Benz’s models were announced in the 30th week of 2019. On the list of motorcycles, we can see a new recall for Peugeot’s Kisbee and Streetzone scooters.

We wrote about the possible blockage of the Mazda‘s engine intake valve at the beginning of July – see here. This week’s recall for the Mazda 3, Mazda 6 and Mazda CX-5 also mention the intake valve, but the cause is different. In the previously mentioned actions, it was the failure of the control unit when switching from cylinder deactivation mode to normal mode, this time the air inlet valve may get stuck in a closed position due to accumulated soot. The production period also differs. In our article we write about cars from the years 2017 – 2019, Rapex mentions the years 2012 – 2018.

In addition, the Mazda 3 from the years 2015-2017 may have a faulty Front Body Control Module (F-BCM), which may cause the windscreen wipers to fail.

Mercedes-Benz

The fixing screws for the turbocharger oil return line and the crankcase breather pipe may have been interchanged with the Mercedes C-Class, E-Class and CLS with four-cylinder petrol engines. Due to a screw being too long, the pre-tensioning force of the screw connection may be insufficient and oil could leak from the turbocharger oil return line. As a result, oil could come into contact with hot components, increasing the risk of fire. The vehicles affected by this recall were manufactured between 5 December 2018 and 10 January 2019.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinters (906BB50, 906BA35 and 906BB35) manufactured from August to October 2018 may have a defect in the automatic transmission which may block the changing of gears. As a result, the vehicle may roll away or inadvertently accelerate, increasing the risk of an accident.

Motorcycles

We’ve been little neglected motorcycles in our recent reports. Eight new recalls were added to our special section, the last one for Peugeot Kisbee and Streetzone scooters. Check out moto-recalls.eu for details.

Where now?

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish fully comprehensive vehicle check, with more than 80 data points about the history of the car, then we suggest going to HPI-Check, which provides information on a specific vehicle using also the vehicle registration number.
