Five recalls concerning eight models of four manufacturers were announced in the 42nd week of 2018. Ford, Peugeot and Volkswagen issued one recall each, two were reported by BMW. The Bavarian carmaker has encountered similar problems previously solved by Mercedes-Benz and Audi.
At the beginning of October, Mercedes-Benz recalled this year´s GLE and GLS models because of a possible rear brake calipers fault. This week Peugeot reports similar problems with its 4008 model and also BMW with its SUVs BMW X3 and BMW X4. In the case of the French carmaker, it may be because of a poor assembly, whereas with the Germans because of the piston’s defective coating.
Let’s not forget that due to the faulty rear brake caliper pistons, the Audi Q5 was recalled already in July and due to the cracked rear brake calipers Mercedes-Benz recalled its G 63 AMG (2017-2018) back in August.
For BMW, the brakes were not the only reason for the recall this week. For a period of three weeks from July 12, 2018, to August 2, 2018, the BMW X5 and BMW X6 models ran off the Spartanburg, South Carolina USA production line with poorly tightened wheel bolts.
Ford
The recall due to the poorly functioning rear door child-lock announced by Ford for its Focus model also does not appear for the first time in our overview. Previously, for the same reason for example Kia Rio, Renault Talisman, Renault Megane, Skoda Citigo, Skoda Rapid, Skoda Octavia, Seat Ibiza, Seat Leon, Seat Toledo, Seat Mii and also the Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Tiguan, Volkswagen CC, Volkswagen Up!, Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Golf have all been recalled. The parts and suppliers unification seems to not only have benefits for vehicles producers.
Volkswagen
We already wrote in August about the upcoming recall for Tourans and Tiguans with a panoramic sun-roof – read here. Due to moisture penetration and a possible short circuit in the LED lighting module, Volkswagen is now recalling Tourans (2015-2018) and Tiguans (2015-2018) officially via Rapex.
