In June 2018, 31 recalls were reported through the EU Rapex alert system, involving 37 models of 13 brands. Nine recalls were announced by Mercedes-Benz, three by Volkswagen, Citroën and Peugeot. Dodge, Chrysler, Nissan and Toyota had two recalls each. At least one recall was reported by Honda, Jeep, Mazda, Renault and Suzuki. The oldest cars recalled in June were made in 2003 and include a 15-year-old Mazda RX-8.
Most of the calls in June 2018 were announced by Mercedes-Benz. They were related to the problems with water leakage into the interior spaces of the front door (Class E), defective door locks (Class V), missing body weldings (Class A + Sprinter), front seats (Sprinter, Class C, Class E) ) and a poorly installed windscreen (Class A) – see the table below.
Exploding airbag inflators have been a big topic of recent years. Their tiny fragments can penetrate the interior of the vehicle and injure the passengers. Who would have thought the problem could only be seen with older cars, would be wrong. Dangerous inflators are being fitted even these days, and Mercedes-Benz is recalling some models made from the beginning of this year until mid-March 2018. It covers a wide range of A-Class, C-Class and E-Class models through the GLA and GLC SUVs to the purely sporty AMG GT.
Volkswagen recalled three times in June – due to a poorly fitted active headrest (Golf, Passat, Touran, Caddy), due to the risk of a gas tank burst (T5 CNG) and due to the risk of the rear seat belt buckle loosening (Polo).
Detailed overviews were written in our weekly reports:
- Missing welding points on the bodies of some Mercedes and Renault models (26/18)
