These 25 cars had more than five recalls in 2021

At the beginning of 2022, we have again provided our traditional detailed overview of all the recalls announced by the Rapex rapid alert system in 2021.

Unlike last year, when we picked out the 14 cars with the most recalls, this time, we went deeper and selected 25 cars that had more than five recalls in 2021.

Just for reference, in 2021, 45 carmakers have announced a total of 358 recalls for 270 models via the Rapex rapid alert system. Please take a look at our detailed 2021 overview. Again, these are mostly voluntary measures, self-reported by the carmakers and not forced by the European Commission’s supervisory authorities. We should appreciate that these are the car companies that have admitted their mistakes and are trying to correct them. This is not the case for all of the others.

Five recalls had 13 cars, six actions had three others, while the owners of four cars were recalled seven times to the dealership. Only some Mercedes had eight or more recalls. A surprise to some may be the nine recalls for Mercedes’ flagship S-Class. But the German manufacturer is famous for leaving nothing to chance and recalling its cars for the slightest problem that many other manufacturers would not address with a recall.

The following overview lists cars from five to ten recalls in ascending order. Different generations and versions of a given model may have been recalled during the year. At the end of the summary, you will find a table with the other 23 cars with four recalls in 2021.

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
