19 Recalls in August 2018 – Five cars and six motorcycles at the risk of fire

In August 2018, 19 recalls concerning 18 models from 12 carmakers were issued, according to the EU Rapex alert system. Most recalls were announced by Mercedes-Benz (5x) and Mitsubishi, Opel and Toyota (2x). Alfa Romeo, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Lancia, Mazda, Seat and Volkswagen issued one recall each. The oldest recalled cars are from 2002 (Mazda 6). There were also five new recalls for eight motorcycles.

(Week 31/18) Another problem with corrosion by Mitsubishi, another Toyota ProAce defect
Mitsubishi ASX from 2010 to 2014 has encountered a problem with water penetration into the front wiper motor, which can cause internal corrosion and subsequent failure. The recall was announced in November 2017. A similar defect also occurred with Mitsubishi Outlander (2007 – 2012) and with the sister models Peugeot 4008 (2011 – 2014) and Citroën C-Crosser (2007 – 2012). (Week 32/18) Water may enter the Alfa Romeo´s electrics, Kia and Mercedes with the risk of a fire
Alfa Romeo does not appear too often in the Rapex Recall List. The last time it was back in March due to the inadequate brake and clutch fluid of the Giulia, Giulietta and Stelvio models. A year earlier recalled Italians the Giulietta models (produced from May to June 2016) because of an inadequate ABS control unit. The new recall is again concerned with Stelvio (XII. 2016 – V. 2018), into which electrical circuit can penetrate water and disable some systems from the operation… read more

(Week 33/18) Mercedes E-class solves eCall problem, Opel recalls due to the seatbelts and steering malfunction
The fifth recall was announced by Mercedes-Benz for Class E models this year. The previous ones related to door seals, badly welded seats, and airbags – see our archive. The latest recall concerns vehicles manufactured between February 2017 and January 2018 and their navigation system, which requires an update of the software. (Week 34/18) Possible gas leakage and fire risk at VW and Seat
Seat Ibiza TGIs with compressed natural gas drive may have poorly tightened gas pipe nuts, through which the CNG could escape. A defect can occur on all the model produced in 2018. Volkswagen also reports the risk of gas leakage in an older California T5 models, but also in the recent T6. The screw connections in the gas installation of the built-in kitchen may be inadequate for cars manufactured between 14 January 2015 and 19 May 2018… read more

(Week 35/18) Second recall for Hyundai Ioniq, fuel leakage may occur with big scooters
Hyundai Ioniq has been recalled this February due to possible refrigerant penetration into the EPCU control unit. Its this year´s second recall relates to the inner oil seal of the hydraulic clutch actuator (HCA) which could cause oil leak and the engine compartment could catch fire. The defect may occur in cars manufactured between 15 December 2015 and 20 September 2017, as well as in a related Kia Niro model that was recalled for the same reason three weeks ago… read more
